It has two cases.

According to the number system Nouns are of two types.

Basically Nouns are of two types.

·         Concrete Noun(Need organs of sense)

·         Abstract Noun (No need of organs of sense)

 

Abstract Noun: Abstract nouns are the formation of Adjectives. When adjective alters into noun it seems to be just a concept.

Like, Honesty is our best policy.

 Rules of Nouns-

 

1.Collective nouns are the collection of some nouns.

A short list of collectives:

A. A fleet of ships.    B. A litter of puppies.   C. A congregation of people.   

D. A volley of shots, bullets E. A train of carriages, followers etc.    

F. A series of events.     G. A garland/bunch/bouquet of flowers.

H. A heap of ruins, sand, stones.

 

2. Collective nouns can react as singular and plural both.

 

The jury were divided on the verdict.

 

The jury unanimously has given the verdict.

 

3. Sometimes two or more words make compound nouns. Compound nouns behave as a single unit.

 

Rishita is the mother-in-law of the house.

Ship after ship is arriving.

 

4. If two nouns are connected with of then the first one is the principal noun.

The name of the person is Robinson.

 

The team of India played well against Pakistan.

 

5. There are some nouns after which singular verb always used.

Mathematics is my favourite subject.

Now the scenery is clear to me.

Politics, Physics, Economics, Ethics, Advice, Information, Stationary, Furniture, Hair, News, Rice, Sugar, Poetry, Issue etc.

 

6. Some nouns are always used in a plural form and always take a plural verb.

 

Thanks, Goods, Premises, Goods, Alms, Trousers, Scissors etc.

 

7. Some nouns which are used wrongly.

Fooding and lodging ....... Food and lodging

Physics Teacher .............. Teacher of Physics

Cousin brother .......... Cousin

Freeship ......... Studentship

Boarding........ Boarding house

Lecturership....... Lectureship

 

8. Some nouns are different in singular and plural numbers.

Respect = regards, respects = compliments

Good = wise , goods = property

Authority = command, authorities = persons in power

Force = strength, forces = army

Work = job, works = compositions, factories

Iron = metal, irons = fetters, chains

 

9. when one noun follows another to describe it, the noun which follows is said to be in apposition to the noun which comes before it.
